The University of South Florida hosted TRIO Day, ACT Mastery Prep Boot Camp, STEM Wars, and the 49th Annual Florida TRIO Olympics June 28th through June 30th. Thursday, the 28th brought eight schools to the University Lecture Hall where the Admissions Office led by Malcolm Randolph and other representatives spoke to students as well as provided them a tour. Seniors then were provided a powerful two hour ACT mini boot camp by Oliver Pope of Mastery Prep and underclassmen learned sage advice about the USF experience from a USF student Marcellus Brookes and recent alum Dominique Boyer. The Olympics were kicked off by Dr. Glen Besterfield, Director of Admissions and Dr. Fai Howard Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Reba Garth Director of Student Support Services and Jerinae Speed Florida TRIO President also welcomed the crowd of 650 students and staff. More than 15 sporting and academic events were held over the course of two days rain and shine. STEM Wars was also a feature introduced by SAEOPP Upward Bound Director William Troy Curry representing Georgia TRIO. This event was held in the USF Recreation Center and at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) and featured drones, robotics, CSI, virtual reality, and free admission to the museum. A luau dance was held Friday evening featuring a live dj. Saturday's award ceremony featured President Speed presenting over fifty awards with the grand prize overall medal winner going to SAEOPP Upward Bound. Thank you to Upward Bound Director Raymond Cabrera and Academic Advisor Lawanna Hair for spearheading the event.
